Artists Statement Febuary 2010
I have exhibited in the UK and will be having a small exhibition in India at the end of 2010.In my work I explore themes such as pursuit and pursue, possess and possesed, adoration and thrall, forgetting and abandonment.
The "Intimate Spaces" these women inhabit in the work are behind closed doors, intimate spaces of a room , doorway, corridor or bed. The intimate spaces are also spiritual, emotional, mental, erotic, and sexual spaces.Intimate spaces in the sense of deeply personal, private or secret, having sexual relations with or having a deep unusual knowledge of.
The paintings and drawings as well as sculptures and prints of lovers are also an attempt to explore the movement of the five elements of Metal or Air, Earth ,Fire ,Water and Wood.Looking at ways they affect our physical, spiritual, emotional and mental activities.
Im interested in how the five elements act on and shape our bodies and body language,and sometimes distorting physical posture.Finding the many ways in which they influence our decision making, actions, attitudes,movement and activities.How these Elements shape and affect emotions and thoughts.Seeing ways in which these Elemental forces we are made of powerfully influence how we are in everyday existence.
In the work I want to show how our physical appearance and mental attitudes are governed, shaped and driven by the five Elements of the Cosmological Cycle.How the Elements influence shape and drive our life force according to the laws of T.C.M. "Traditional Chinese Medicine"
My work explores the movement within us of the five Elements or Energys when out of balance, so distorting, our physical appearance, mental behavior and emotions . The figure drawings and paintings reveal powerful forces at work.Shaping the body and its movements and also governing emotional and mental activities.
I want my work to express strongly the experience of feeling the forces of the Elemental Energies.
