Diane is a Brighton textile artist creating hand painted and printed silk embroideries and also acrylic paintings on canvas.
Inspiration for her textile work comes from nature and the environment.
Main themes are rich carpets of leaves, the gnarled, grainy texture of tree bark, the pebbles of Brighton beach and rock pools further up the coast. Her images are hand painted or printed onto silk, then quilted, embroidered and embellished by stitching. This creates texture and raised areas in relief, and gives a compelling, irresistible tactile quality to each piece.
Diane’s acrylic paintings are a fairly realistic representation of images captured with her camera. The neglect and decay of structures and buildings plus exposure to the natural elements, can reveal interesting surfaces, shapes, textures and patterns.
